What: The Phoenix Artists and Galleries Hurricane Relief Benefit
When: 6:00 pm – 1am, Saturday, September 17, 2005
Where: THE ICEHOUSE, 429 W Jackson Street, Phoenix, AZ
Cost: Minimum $5 donation requested.
Who: Downtown Phoenix artists and musicians
Why: To assist victims of Hurricane Katrina
We have had an amazing show of support and the primary thing we need now is people to show up, pay their $5+ and enjoy the show. Consider giving more than the minimum donation of $5.00. And bring extra money for the silent auction, food and drink, all funds going to the various agencies listed below. Have other plans for the night? Maybe you could just drop by and drop off a donation. See you Saturday!
---
In response to the devastation to New Orleans of Hurricane Katrina, the downtown Phoenix arts community is holding a fundraising art and music show at the Icehouse on Saturday September 17th. The event will raise money and collect other donations for people displaced by Hurricane Katrina. There will be bands, DJs, dance performance, a silent art auction, and a children's pavilion with several tables of art projects led by local artists. It will be a family-friendly event and evacuees now staying in Phoenix have been invited. The event starts at 6pm.
In a great show of support, Mayor Phil Gordon is giving his personal endorsement of the benefit. Also endorsing the event are the Downtown Phoenix Arts Coalition (D-PAC), .anti_space, Thought Crime, Fortoul Presents…, The Icehouse, Stinkweeds, Modified Arts, and No Festival Required, in addition to dozens of artists and performers who are donating their time and talent.
Performers include: Colorstore, Sweetbleeders, Sonorous, Diana Mera, This Traveling Will, Kill Baby Kill, La Roja Dance Ensemble, Lonna Kelly, Candice Aragon, Back Ted N –Ted, DJ Robby Rob, Satori, Chris Doyle, Greta Skelly, Rocketline, and Off/Axis.
Attendees are asked to donate a minimum of $5 to support the relief effort. They will be able to choose directly which organization they would like their donation to go to from a selection including The Salvation Army, and grassroots organizations such as Community Labor United - a coalition of community activist organizations, and Plan B - a New Orleans bicycle collective.
There will also be a collection point for material goods including clothing and toiletries to be distributed to displaced residents of New Orleans now in Phoenix or sent back to affected areas. Material goods will be donated to the Salvation Army. Bicycles will go to New Orleanians now in Phoenix, or to Plan B for distribution in Louisiana.
